I had the same problem having a over 500 files on a smaba share
(samba4). No problems accessing it with my desktop running 12.04 (samba3
client) but kept hanging (with no crash as per bug description) on my
laptop running 12.10 (samba3 client).

I have since installed fusesmb and the problem seems to have gone away
although I have not carried out extensive testing.
