Public bug reported: I am assisting the teachers of many Greek high schools to install Ubuntu in the classrooms. The major complain i encounter is that some of the most common configuration options must be done via the command line. It would be extremely helpful if there was a way to change some of these options through gnome-control-center.
Typical configuration options in a classroom environment: 1) Change grub boot options/set the default OS to boot 2) Change the options of the application launchers in Unity (for example change tuxpaint to tuxpaint --fullscreen) 3) Change the entries of /etc/hosts (to add the static IP of the server for the epoptes-client application) 4) Change the way users interact with the ntfs partitions (for example set whether the users can access the windows partition or not) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.9 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-23.35~precise1-generic 3.5.7.2 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-23-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.1 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Apr 9 14:50:27 2013 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release i386 (20130214) MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=el_GR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-control-center UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) usr_lib_gnome-control-center: activity-log-manager-control-center 0.9.4-0ubuntu3.2 deja-dup 22.0-0ubuntu3 gnome-bluetooth 3.2.2-0ubuntu5 indicator-datetime 0.3.94-0ubuntu2 ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 precise running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1166748 Title: Control center desperately needs more configration options To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1166748/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
