Resurfacing ancient bug? I've been getting this behaviour occasioanally in 13.04 (whatever was the latest and official version of nautilus in it) and now in 13.10 too with nautilus 1:3.8.2-0ubuntu2.
Also exactly same symptoms to post #4, when files are being created from an external program and whether or not Nautilus is running while that happens. Restarting with 'nautilus -q' solves the problem until it reappears again.
