I've tried out the Feisty i386 herd4 desktop CD.

This system has the following versions:
ALSA 1.0.14rc1
Totem 2.17.91
Gstreamer: 0.10.11.cvs20070110

Unfortunately I wasn't able to test a DVD, as I had the liveCD in my DVD
player. I have tested a video file with 5.1 AC3 sound instead. In this
case Totem also didn't play 5.1 sound. The sidebar indicates "Channels:
2". When using the liveCD I have installed all the Gstreamer plugins and
the gstreamer-ffmpeg plugin. The console outputs no errors when using
Totem. The same video is played correctly with mplayer and the console
output also indicates 6 channels in the audio stream.

I can't tell for sure if this is exactly the same problem as playing a
DVD. Testing with a DVD may be a bit more difficult, let me know if it
would be useful to do such tests.
