Public bug reported:

When i select commands from Nautilus window bar menu such as "New Tab",
"New Folder", "Open in Terminal", the system freezes a bit and the
processor usage can reach 60% on a 6th generation Intel Core i7.

For example, "Open in Terminal" opens the terminal in the current folder
(as expected) and the cursor rapidly blinks for a few seconds, ignoring
attempts to type anything at the prompt.

This abnormal activity does not happen if i choose "New Folder" or "Open
in Terminal" from a pop-up menu, right-clicking in an empty space in the
Nautilus window.

I am using Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1. According to GNOME developers, GNOME 3.18 is 
not supported anymore:
