Of course... I spoke to soon. I just went off to do some serious work, and was trying to setup my terminals in "the one true way" and gnome- terminal crashed when I opened up a new tab.
I can reliably make it crash now by setting my terminal to maximised (for me 209x73) and then opening tabs. By the time I have two tabs of that size open then gnome-terminal will crash.
