The scrambling issue has repeated itself since my initial bug report. At
the time that it happened, I was only after booting was completed and I
couldn't see or do anything with my laptop until I suspended it with the
power button. On another occasion a few weeks ago, this same issue
occurred and I believe I did a shutdown by holding the power button
until it powered off and restarted with a successful restart at that
point.
