Actually logout can occur without any cable manipulation or turning on/off external monitor. Few times it already happened to me with just lock screen activated. No standby, no hibernate. After I came back, I expected a screen to enter password for unlock, but login screen appear... Means session was logged out and all work lost... No restart was made concerning uptime result... My config: Lenovo P50, noveau driver for nvidia, Ubuntu17.10, everything updated to most recent versions
