These graphical problems are almost certainly caused by the nouveau
graphics driver.
Please try the official nvidia driver if you can, whichever newest one supports
your hardware:
nvidia-driver-390
nvidia-375
nvidia-367
nvidia-361
nvidia-352
nvidia-346
nvidia-340
nvidia-331
The main reason why there are so many options is because Nvidia
regularly drops support for their older hardware and in that case only
an older driver will still work.
