Just installed on my machine. Followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed to enable the -proposed
in the GUI.

Then I did create sudo vim /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed-updates to
limit proposed updates.

Then I ran:
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install gnome-shell/bionic-proposed

On reboot, I have:
$ gnome-shell --version
GNOME Shell 3.28.3

I've locked my computer for ~5 minutes twice, and have yet to see any
issues in my syslog. I'll continue to monitor.

Also, I had an issue where any time I locked my screen or it went to
sleep, my vms in Virtualbox would freeze and go into a state where I
couldn't interact with them (though I could still ssh into them). That
seems to be fixed here as well. Super excited if true.

Any issue if I go back into preferences and disable -proposed updates
now?
