Hi, I came back after a while and I found a nice link to deb packages at post #47 (thanks!). I installed them and speed is improved, but file copies are still crashing randomly. The most common error message is "libmtp error: Could not send object." (it's an mp3).
I will upgrade to Ubuntu 20 as soon as possible, but I don't know what to expect. Since two years I cannot realiably move files between my smartphone and my computer, it's quite sad.
