Public bug reported: Originally reported on: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /xubuntu-meta/+bug/1766976
> In a default fresh install of XUbuntu 20.04, Qt based applications, eg Featherpad and Qt-Creator, will not display certain unicode characers, eg, U+1F9C0 CHEESE WEDGE 🧀 (a white rectangle is shown instead). Non Qt apps, eg geany or gnome-terminal, show the cheese successfully. If Noto fonts are manually uninstalled, then the problem is fixed; Featherpad does display the cheese correctly. Conjecture: the Noto fonts were providing a colour version of the cheese wedge; the Qt apps could not display that but can display grey versions Xubuntu does not include fonts-noto-color-emoji, but instead includes fonts-symbola. While the Noto fonts are installed, Featherpad displays a white rectangle instead of the B&W cheese wedge. Uninstalling the Noto fonts leads Featherpad to display the correct emoji. I also tried replacing fonts-symbola with fonts-noto-color-emoji, but to no avail. ** Affects: fonts-noto (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to fonts-noto in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1930695 Title: Noto Fonts (without color emoji) break non-color emoji in QT applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-noto/+bug/1930695/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
