I can confirm that this hasn't been fixed on either 20.04 LTS or 21.04 with the latest updates applied and a reboot into the latest kernel. Steps to reproduce using GNOME Boxes and the Chrome deb file from Google:
0. Install GNOME Boxes using apt 1. Setup VM with either OS using the defaults (no encryption) 2. Setup OS once installed, applied updates and rebooted 3. Use Firefox to search Google for Chrome and downloaded the .deb file 3a. Open using Software Install 4. Notice the "Failed to install file: not supported" error at the top of the Software Center I was able to install the .deb file using Software Install if I downloaded the file and then double left-clicked the file to install using Software Install/ 20.04 LTS snap-store 3.38.0-64-g23c4c77 21.04 snap-store 3.38.0-59-g494f078 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867610 Title: snap-store cannot install local deb packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snap-store-desktop/+bug/1867610/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
