The fact that a /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-hack.conf file with 'options
nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1' doesn't bring back the
Wayland option suggests that the line...

in /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm isn't parsing as expected.
