I tried using GDM3 as suggested by Khurshid, and it works perfectly fine with GDM3 and the latest version of gnome-session. Guess I'll release Ubuntu Unity 22.04 with GDM instead of lightdm since it's too late to release an update to fix this for lightdm users before the release.
