I updated my system today. I added this file:

# cat /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-power-management.conf 
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1

Now, for the first time ever, it seems Wayland with Nvidia proprietary
drivers work, including suspend and resume. I think I did not have to do
anything else than the above, but I'm not 100% sure.
