I got more feedback, this time in the form of a code review, and it
resulted in yet another version:

That is no longer true. The latest version, which is applied in the PPA
in version 3.44.0-1ubuntu1+dejavu3, sets "DejaVu Sans Mono" explicitly.

My plea for another test still stands. ;)
