Public bug reported:
**Package:** nautilus
**Version:** 50.0
**Ubuntu Version:** 26.04 (Resolute) - kernel 7.0.0-15-generic.
**Expected behavior:**
When clicking and holding the scrollbar at a certain position (without moving
the mouse), the scrollbar should stay in place.
**Actual behavior:**
1. Open a large directory (tested with C:/Windows/System32/ in Windows).
2. Drag the scrollbar to a middle position.
3. Hold the left mouse button down WITHOUT moving the mouse.
Result: The scrollbar starts jittering rapidly up and down. The file
list scrolls back and forth extremely fast, causing a flickering effect.
The movement is so fast that the scrollbar position appears to be
"vibrating" rather than scrolling smoothly.
**Steps to reproduce:**
1. Open Nautilus.
2. Navigate to a directory with many files (tested with ~3000 files).
3. Click and drag the scrollbar to the middle of the bar.
4. Hold the mouse button down without moving the cursor.
5. Observe the rapid jittering.
**Frequency:** 100% reproducible (tested 5 times).
**Additional notes:**
- The mouse cursor is completely stationary during this behavior.
- The issue does NOT occur in small directories.
- The jittering is extremely fast, causing the file list to flicker.
- I tested with a directory containing 5000 empty files created by touch, and
the issue did not occur. The issue likely only occurs in directories with heavy
metadata/complex items like C:/Windows/System32/ (many different file types,
icons, and executable attributes).
