I can definitely confirm this bug. It freezes two different PCs, both running Ubuntu 6.10, i386 version. It also stalls in the Macintosh version, but does not freeze the system. It never produces a screensaver, but was responsive to mouse clicks and keyboard selections. Both PCs had to be hard reset.
I left one PC alone for over an hour, and when I moved the mouse the screen lit up and had a molecule displayed on it, but the computer was otherwise completely unresponsive to all but a hard reset. I think that if I could trash the usr/bin/gnome-screensaver-preferences file, it would remove the need to re-install Ubuntu from the CD, but it belongs to root, and the system won't let me delete it. -- Selecting the Molecule screensaver makes the PC freeze.
