Sebastien, from cited apps (nm-applet, xchat-gnome, rhythmbox & gnome- power-manager) only g-p-m uses GtkStatusIcon. The others still use eggtrayicon widget. That's why i think the bug is in GtkStatusIcon component.
This component has some regression from eggtrayicon (see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409435).
