I've been using Ubuntu since past July and never had a problem (excepting minor ussues), since today. I've followed this guide (http://onlyubuntu.blogspot.com/2007/03 /upgrade-ubuntu-610-edgy-eft-to-ubuntu.html) to update my Edgy version to Feisty Fawn. I did the "update-manager -c -d" and I was told by the Update Tool that I had to upgrade some files (it didn't gave me the chance to click in the upgrade button that appears below). http://www.ubuntugeek.com/images/upgrade/4.png The upgrade was about 800 mb but strangely the message below, instead saying upgrading to version 7.04, said upgrading to 6.10 (which I know its Edgy). http://www.ubuntugeek.com/images/upgrade/9.png Besides a small problem updating Mephisto (which once I had updated manually) everything worked fine. Then the system sad it had to be restarted and so I did it. The grub menu normally appears and now, instead of: Ubuntu 2.6.17-10 Ubuntu 2.6.17-10 (recovery mode) Ubuntu MemTest Win XP i have: Ubuntu 2.6.20-12 Ubuntu 2.6.20-12 (recovery mode) Ubuntu 2.6.17-11 Ubuntu 2.6.17-11 (recovery mode) Ubuntu 2.6.17-10 Ubuntu 2.6.17-10 (recovery mode) Ubuntu MemTest Win XP So far no problem, as I thought the only thing I was going to have to do was removing the old kernel lines in etc/grub/menu.lst (as I had done in previous kernel updates). I enter the first option (Ubuntu 2.6.20-12) and the boot starts (the loading bar fills completely). But, Oh Horror, does not appears the login screen. In fact, nothing appears. The screen just stays black. Entering the recovery mode, I can navigate through file system using terminal, but when i enter ctrl-D to go on with the boot, it happens the same thing. When I tried to enter using the old kernel (2.6.17-10), I get the same response (from both "normal" and recovery mode). Using the Ubuntu 2.6.17-11, it gives me a kernel panic error. Now I have absolutely no idea what to do. Can anyone help me?
