Public bug reported:

I had installed Ubuntu 7.04 and it worked OK but I didn't have the KDE
interface to play with. I used the Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) to add
it plus Quake 2 and 3. I rebooted and went into the KDE GUI. It works
OK. Then I decided to go back to the Gnome GUI and while I could login
and get the desktop, the top and bottom panels had no icons and the
mouse worked erratically. Since there was no way to logout gracefully I
pressed the reboot button and retried to get the Gnome GUI running, it
did not. I rebooted again and went into the KDE GUI and got the crash
tool, so here I am writing. I will reinstall 7.04 for the 4th time and
just leave Gnome as it is. I will not install KDE nor will I install the
3D desktop feature as that prevents X from starting. I have to log files
for that if you wish. Drop me a line.
