You have been subscribed to a public bug: To reproduce: 1. Try to open the file attached below by double clicking it in nautilus. 2. See the error message:
"The filename "covariance.m" indicates that this file is of type "Objective-C source code". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "MATLAB script/function". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "MATLAB script/function", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. " The problem here is that .m is a common extension for Objective-C source code AND for MATLAB/octave scripts. I applaud Nautilus for being able to identify the file correctly (it is a plaintext matlab script file) but it would be nice to be able to open it :) Temporary workaround: Right click the file and choose an option from the Open With menu. Then the check doesn't appear to run. Hopefully that's not a bug too? ** Affects: shared-mime-info (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Unconfirmed ** Tags: likely-dup -- Nautilus gives incorrect warning when opening files of .m extension https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112228 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
