It's not hard once you know how. You just define a new page style, which 
is the same as your normal style, except that the orientation is changed.

Then Insert > Manual Break with the Style set to your new style.

At the end of the rotated section, Insert > Manual Break with the Style 
set to "Default".

No big deal.

OpenOffice is very style-dependent, which confuses a lot of MS Office 
switchers.
