Forgive me for not knowing internals correctly but would it be relatively simple to tweak the esd source such that the binary daemon is not built but just the library? That way until libcanbera(?) is fully adopted and libesd dies, there is still the libesd system which can be used with a pa server and everything is hunky dory?
