I think I just found a new showstopper bug:

When mounting volumes with GIO, if the mount helper does not return its
console output at once (for instance for an internal floppy disk), the
mounting application freezes until the entire buffer is read. This is
particularly problematic as Nautilus tries to automount all volumes on
startup. If you don't run a volume monitor, it is assumed that an
internal floppy disk is present and you end up with a ~30 second
application freeze at each startup.
