As Alex said, we've got a read/write Tracker backend for Folks, but we don't recommend using it since we've added the read/write EDS backend (which will be the default for Gnome and MeeGo). I'm also planning to pull the Tracker backend out of the core source tree into its own module so we can get a sense of how well we support third-party backends. We'll still maintain it, but not on as active a level.
