I recently installed Xfce 4.4.2 on an Ultra 20 running snv_96. Initially xfdesktop would crash on startup. There was a "static function called but not defined" message in the OSOLdesktop.log.
After fixing this prgblem and rebuilding xdesktop, Xfce has been running without major problems, although I have not tested many features. (I am not convinced there is a cause and effect here.) I have also installed it on an old Sparc machine (Ultra 60) running snv_97. Its a little slow on that machine, but acceptable to me. I used SunStudio 12 on the Ultra 60. No problems with building. Note that recent Nevada releases have SUNWgamin and SUNWgamin-devel packages, which causes the OSOLgamin packages to fail installation. The attached file contains patches for the source code error, a partial solution for the misleading gamin messages, and and update to display "XFce 4.4.2" in the login screen. The attached patch file is against release 18, and requires gnu patch. To apply them, in the xfce patch directory run: gpatch -u -p 0 -i patch_file. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
