Sorry to chime in with this so late, but I'm not entirely convinced
that this is a gnome-terminal only problem. I use blastwave's xterm, it
has the same issue and will not take PgUp PgDn, only together with
Shift does it work.

It used to work before a recent update to SXCE.

I've checked with a number of other users who don't have this problem
and there seems to be no difference in the binaries we use, so by
exclusion it follows that this may affect some machines on some
versions of SXCE?!

It's weird alright and I'm just as annoyed by it but haven't found a
way to circumvent it yet.

I'm planning a reinstall of my machine soon and am curious to see if it
will revert to accepting unshifted PgUp PgDn.
