I had the same in the beginning, running OpenSolaris with a UTF-8 locale,
which would have been nice, since I use quite a few languages on the same
machine.

In the end I had to switch to a C locale permanently, since these input
method selector thingies screwed usage up completely and cause core dumps
on quite some applications, including windowmaker itself. I never found a
solution in order to have the system working in a UTF-8 locale. Using a C
locale does cause headaches when trying to pass unicode data between
certain apps. If anyone has suceeded in running a UTF-8 locale without
those darn selector thingies, I'd be very much obliged to learn how they
did it.

I use yudit for typing unicode characters, but it'd be well nice to have
the system treat them as such, and not as random binary garbage as the C
locale does.

Many thanks to anyone who can advise on how to get rid of these input
method selector applets.
