Just FYI. I have been hacking away at spec files for the last couple of weeks and have added/modified a bunch of stuff in the SFE repository including full KDE3 (KDE Toys and Koffice coming up).
Essentially I am in the process of converting all the BeleniX pkgs into spec files and adding them into SFE (if they are not already present). I am building/testing on Solaris Express B78. At present almost all of the KDE 3.5.8 spec files are in and I have a fully working KDE3 desktop at home. The stuff is built with Gcc3 with --enable-final and I am seeing excellent performance. I am yet to come across any major stability issue except for an infrequent weirdness with aRts blocking the audiocontrol device. A restart of the Sound server resolves that. I have also added a script ext-sources/buildkde which is a first attempt at a KDE3 build script. Apart from KDE3 I am also adding a bunch of other stuff from BeleniX and elsewhere (like Avant Window Navigator, xvidcap etc.) Another change I have introduced is to have separate *-encumbered packages containing all encumbered libraries/codecs while the main package is clean. Thus for eg. you will get a SFExine-lib which is clean and a SFExine-lib-encumbered. Similary you will get SFEkdemultimedia3 and SFEkdemultimedia3-encumbered. This will allow a distro like BeleniX to bundle all packages selectively leaving out the encumbered pieces. This is done for all the relevant KDE packages and still a work in progress for others (e.g MPlayer). Regards, Moinak.
