Hi Uwe, No you are not alone, some PDF file seem to cause this to happen - and it's not unique to Evince, ghostscript can also demonstrate this effect too - essentially it seem to be down to badly generated PDFs and from there it depends on how the PDF viewer processes it - at printing time it's attempting to generate a PostScript file and this is where it "breaks".
If you are seeing such an effect with a document please submit a bug[1] with the document attached or a pointer to it (if you can share it) so that it can be properly diagnosed - it can be very difficult to track the issue down without the PDF.
