Hi Iban,

new revision r12 of iiimf is working on utf-8 locales only. There is a 
gui selection for keyboard layout on your applet by default in Indiana 
May Release (iiim-properties).

As not using UTF-8 I can really recommend Laca's suggestion:

/usr/X11/bin/setxkbmap so you can add launchers (or use 
gnome-keybinding-properties to setup a shortcut for setxkbmap)
your panel that switch to another keyboard map and back.


as for using setxkbmap (this recently become part of Sun's Xorg 
consolidation) and there is currently one issue with easy workaround to 
be fixed:
