I usually set "overwrite" to avoid the duplication of packages:

/var/sadm/install/admin $ grep overw default 
instance=overwrite

some nice guys managed to have this setting with every LiveUpgrade
set back to "unique" ... so the first thing after upgrade is
put it back to "overwrite" manually.

Does this change the behaviour when you install vermillion?
(you might want to pkginfo | grep "\.[2-]2 and remove the .<number> packages
beloning to vermillion)
