There's certainly been an element of that... our default browser has  
already changed from Mozilla to Firefox over the lifetime of JDS, and  
our default mail client /may/ change from Evolution to Thunderbird--  
that's still TBD I believe.

Another (possible) consideration is that the JDS user is free to  
change their "preferred" web browser, or email client, or text  
editor, or terminal.  By presenting a generic name on the menu, we  
have the opportunity to have that menu item associated with the  
user's preferred application for that task.  (Admittedly, we don't / 
currently/ do this...)
