Hi guys, As you might know, we're coming close to the next OpenSolaris 2009.06 release. The original plan is to deliver Firefox 3.1 into this release, but the schedule from Mozilla community was delayed. So instead, we might deliver Firefox 3.1b3 which is about to release in the Mozilla community.
The QAs are testing Firefox 3.1b3 on OpenSolaris now. Here I'd also like to ask helps from the desktop community. If you're running OpenSolaris, please join us to test this version for Firefox. There is *NO* extra effort. Just be an end user and use it on your OpenSolaris boxes. Please follow the instructions below to install Firefox 3.1b3: 1. Get the corresponding build from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/contrib/3.1b3-candidates/build1/ <http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/contrib/3.1b3-candidates/build1/>. 2. Unpack the build. % bunzip firefox-3.1b3.en-US.opensolaris-i386-pkg.bz2. It'll give you three packages: SUNWfirefox SUNWfirefox-devel SUNWfirefox-bookmark 3a. For OpenSolaris users who are with the 2009.06 development build b118, you'll have to uninstall the following packages first and install the above three packages. It works ok for my own box. Please note this will probably break something. % pfexec pkg uninstall SUNWipkg-gui SUNWgnome-python-extras SUNWfirefox-bookmark SUNWfirefox % pfexec pkgadd -d . SUNWfirefox SUNWfirefox-devel SUNWfirefox-bookmark 3b. For OpenSolaris users who are with the original 2008.11 release: % pfexec pkg uninstall SUNWfirefox % pfexec pkgadd -d . SUNWfirefox SUNWfirefox-devel SUNWfirefox-bookmark 3c. For Solaris Nevada users, you'll have to pkgrm the packages and then pkgadd the new ones. The default start page is broken as it points to a local file exists only on OpenSolaris. For flash plugins, the latest release 10.0.22.87 is recommended: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ <http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/>. Please restart Firefox to make sure the 3.1b3 release is taken: "Help"->"About Mozilla Firefox". Any problem or feedback for this build will be appreciated. Thanks, -Alfred
