Yep. More to the point, if WIndoze is a requirement I might as well run
iTunes in the first place!
A quick look at the VirtualBox forums suggests that USB support for VirtualBox
guests on Solaris hosts might be coming "soon":

I'd prefer a solution that works natively on Solaris--curse Apple and their
stupid proprietory HW and SW; they're as bad as M$!--but using a Windoze app
via VirtualBox will be OK. Hell, I'm not even the one who'll be using it!
It's my wife's iPhone, so she can suss it out! :-)
