Harry,

I'm CC'ing desktop-discuss where the experts are supposed to be.

The control-space problem is different from the various keystrokes that
get eaten by the window manager and can be fixed using the keyboard
shortcuts preferences. It doesn't seem to be a window manager thing
because some applications work fine. In fact, I do much of my work in
an Emacs running on a remote Linux box, with the display on OpenSolaris,
and control-space works fine there. Only the Emacs compiled and running
on the OpenSolaris system has this problem.

And your other funny character problems are related to the control-space
issue. Control-space toggles between normal input and some kind of dead
key mode. So the presense of that problem depends on whether you have
cursed at the X software an odd or even number of times today for
failing to deliver control-space to Emacs. It took me a while to figure
that out too. It's one of the most annoying things about recent
OpenSolaris systems, so I join you in hoping that someone will tell us
how to fix it.
