I've run into this several times now on OpenSolaris 2008.11:
A launcher fails to open an application, saying:

! Could not launch application
Failed to fork child process (Not enough space)
===================================
However, if I go to an xterm window that is open I can launch as many
applications as I want, such as multiple instances of the application the
launcher was trying to execute, directly via the shell.
Sound familiar to anyone?
