Yeah, if only we were all Real Men (or Tough Ladies) and compiled everything
ourselves.  On the plus side, that would increase the clueful-ness of the user
base 1000-fold.  On the minus side, it would probably shrink the user base by
at least the same factor.

However little I might enjoy the conversation of clueless newbies, a large
(and at least partly paying) user base may be useful to keep our friendly 
sponsors
off of the auction block...
