This is a known bug in the GTK/GNOME upstream - it queries for
Xrandr layout too often, even though that causes the X server
to scan for new devices (which on some hardware requires
momentarily blanking existing devices to check for new ones).
There have been discussions between X.Org community developers
and GNOME community developers about how best to fix this, but
I don't think a fix is in place yet.
