The way I implemented nimbus does allow to just change the colors in the
gtkrc. I'm using non linear gradient generated
on the fly in the code for speed reason (one of the main constraint for
nimbus is to be as fast as possible without using too
much memory (think sunray))
I didn't implement a gtkrc engine syntax (as I did for blueprint) for
speed reason again.
I guess, I could rename the refreshed one theme light-nimbus and keep
the old one around.
Feel free to log a bug to track the issue.
