I installed compiz today, because I had Erwann's old(er) compiz packages, and 
during the last upgrade they got uninstalled, but not reinstalled. So I simply 
pkgadd'ed them; compiz works OK.
This might be the reason you see the windows manager was started by hand, 
because I tested the compiz install.
The upgrade was an "upgrade" :), I always use text-mode install, so the usual 
procedure: choode install mode, then installation language, then keyboard 
layout, set network settings, root pw, and when it asks if I want to install, 
or upgrade, I choose the latter. It asks then which system I want to upgrade (I 
have both S10 and Nevada), I choode Nevada, and it did everything.
To be honest I didn't sit in front of the machine during the install, but it 
came up, and worked ok, when I came back. Except these two things.
Yes, I rebooted the machine since then.
