I just tried the 2008.11 RC1 and noticed that application,
document, desktop, and window title font are set to Sans
Condensed which translates to DejaVu Sans Condensed. This variant
is explicitly marked experimental on the DejaVu website (see
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page), it
apparently provides no hinting and thus looks really unsharp on
screen.
Why is this the default font? Changing the above mentioned fonts
from Sans Condensed to Sans (i.e. DejaVu Sans) would considerably
improves this, especially when hinting is enabled.
