I think it is a great media program, and a nice alternative to using rhythmbox. One neat thing about Songbird is that it has really good licensing. It allows, for example, you to distribute Songbird along with non-GPL compatible GStreamer plugins (such as the Fluendo MP3 audio plugin). We are slowly working to make all Solaris GStreamer based media programs have similar licensing, so that plugins like the MP3 audio plugin can be distributed along with the OS. Songbird fits well into this plan. In the latest GNOME builds, rhythmbox and totem have similar good licensing. The one GStreamer program that doesn't have good licensing is sound-juicer, wihch provided CD playback and ripping functionalities. I understand that a future version of Songbird will support CD playback/ripping. So, Songbird could be an obvious replacement for sound-juicer if we can not otherwise get the sound-juicer license updated to have similar licensing. At any rate, I think it is good to support free media software that has licensing that is compatible with popular non-GPL compatible media plugins. Brian
