Hi All, I wonder if there is some sleight of hand involved in this, or if it's just broken and I should file a bug report.
OpenSolaris 2009.06 x86, and I recall seeing the same prob on some separate Dell boxen running 2008.11. In the GNOME System Monitor app, CPU usage is reported correctly, but Network History and Harddisk remain completely flat/inactive. Obviously I've tested this while the sytem has been actively accessing network and doing disk intensive operations (e.g. zpool scrub), but no matter what this is not reflected accurately/at all by these components of System Monitor, on my system anyway.
