Hi Luke,

  You don't say where you are in the boot process under Ubuntu. If you 
haven't brought up X Windows yet, I think you're always going to get 
that issue since the bootup is optimized for the least capable hardware. 
I'd just check the little box, that says "Don't bother me again", make 
sure your X is set for 32 bit color depth and get on with your life. I 
get that same message on startup for every OS I've ever installed under 
VirtualBox.
