In addition to the zone going back to the configured state, there is a
new file added to the zoneroot. SUNWdetached.xml contains the original
zone configuration (used by zonecfg create -a), a device tree and
the package/patch list (used by zoneadm attach).

One more thing, you must completely get rid of the zones, including the
configuration. For each zone you have detached, also do a
zonecfg -z <zonename> delete.

This will totally remove the zone from the system (although the essence
of zone is still in your filesystem).

Once you have done your LU, reverse your sequence

        # zonecfg -z <zonename> create -a <zonepath>
        # zoneadm -z <zonename> attach
        # zoneadm -z <zonename> boot

This all works although there are some things you need to watch out for.
Since LU has no knowledge of these zones, they need to be gone each time
you interact with LU. You can also run into some fun if you attach
them to your ABE. Upgrade on attach will do it's magic and then you
can't move the zone back to original BE (unless you kept a copy).

So just out of curiosity, why do you want the zones to be removed from
your new BE ? My use case is a lot of transient zones for
demonstrations. Yours certainly sound rather permanent.
