Gnome (JDS3) does restore sessions for me, provided that you are running
Gnome applications.  Try gnome-terminal instead of xterm or dtterm, for example.

I've reported this one as a bug.  It is apparently being worked on, although 
the new
window behavior is complex.  Again, it's related to non-Gnome applications.
