Thanks, that seems to be the one.

I'd prefer to disable it altogether :-)

I don't save sessions... and I hardly ever go to ~/Desktop in a shell...

That would be ok, although an option to change that behaviour would be cool.

I just tried a freshly added user and gnome-terminal starts the shell in 
~/Desktop 
as well. So at least on my box it seems to be a bug since I didn't see that 
before 
installing vermillion 87.
